Hey there bloggers!!  What's up with that?  Two blogs in one week.  Yep - you got it.  Needed to update the thermometer.  WOWZA - got a $50.00 donation from the blog.  Talk about excited.  Yep - you got it.  I was SUPER excited.  Keep it coming - we've got a ways to go.

I'm up late and getting wacky.  Uploaded some ebay rubber stamps from the Stampscapes collection.  I love those scenic stamps and love using them.  Unfortunately when they are stamped on photos, they look pretty professional so Operation Write Home does not want them submitted as they do not look homemade.  Have you checked out the OWH site yet:  www.operationwritehome.com.  It has tons of information about OWH if you are interested.

I prepped earlier for the demo tomorrow at Mimi's Crop Circle in Burien.  We'll be doing wax resist so if you are in the neighborhood, do stop in.  It's always fun to catch up.  We also need to support what is left of our local stores.  They are getting to be far and few inbetween.  Mimi's is a HUGE store with tons of paper options along with lots of embellishments and an incredible amount of samples.  I have never seen so many samples in any one store.  Do check it out.

Fundraising for Operation Write Home

Hey there bloggers!!  Hope this blog finds you all well and doing GREAT!!  It's been just over a month now since I closed up the shop but it seems that I am busier than ever.  I have yet to see the light at the end of the tunnel.  I am sure that you can imagine the "debris" from having closed up two storefronts in just a years time.  It's challenging to say the least and I am able to only make baby steps each day but they are at least moving forward.  I simply find it amazing that I have way less time now than ever.  I am keeping busy and off the streets so I am definitely staying out of trouble.

One of my recent endeavors that I have challenged myself with is fundraising for Operation Write Home (OWH).  I have mentioned it here on the blog before but now it has taken an elevated turn.  In a nutshell, OWH is an organization that collects, collates, enhances, or whatever is necessary to prepare greeting cards that are then forwarded to our troops overseas.  They in turn can use these greeting cards to send home to their loved ones.  It is a "honking" endeavor as you might imagine. Greeting cards are flowing in by the thousands.  Shipping, however, has become one of the biggest challenges and its associated costs.  Shipping for the upcoming holiday is estimated at $13,000.00.  Now that is a load.  It only takes $12.95 to ship one box and I am thinking that all of us can do this one box at a time.  I am in turn donating to OWH to make a difference.  There is no donation too small.  I am hoping that you also will help to make a difference.  Here is how:

There is lots more going on and I promise to blog again soon.  I am hoping to update the thermometer often so go ahead and give me a reason!!  For those of you wondering, my health continues to improve steadily.  I am making strides everyday so I am definitely grateful for that.

Life Is Changing!!

Hello Bloggers!!  As the title implies, life is changing. Have not blogged for a while and still have not found a "niche" since closing the store but definitely working on it.  I am missing the store like crazy but do not miss all the stress and anxiety with respect to the financials.  I wish it could have been very different but it was not so now we are required to move on. 

I do need to say, however, that if any of us love having a local craft store, and most of us do, that we will support them.  Many of you may not realize it but Friends and Company was No. 7 to close in a matter of two months.  So the next time you think about shopping for crafts, be sure to keep your small independent store in mind.  I want to do my part to keep the few stores that remain up and running.  Please join me!!

I have not even begun to dig out from all the debris of closing two storefronts within the same year.  I can only manage baby steps for the time being but at least I am working in the right direction - at least I think so.  It is so overwhelming on some days that I just take off to play.  It's sort of humorous but I am OK with it.  One of these days, it will all come together.  In the meantime, I highly endorse playtime!! 

I've been helping Dotti Harris with Operation Write Home (OWH).  We are on a tight schedule to meet the deadlines for holiday cards so it is becoming a priority.  Dotti is working very hard to support the entire endeavor of sending cards to the troops who can then select cards to send back to loved ones.  Cards are rolling in like crazy but some fund raising needs to happen in order to mail all those flat rate boxes in time for the holidays.  Just $12.95 can make a HUGE difference.  That is all it takes to mail one flat rate box.  Anyone know of any potential sponsors?  How sweet would that be?  How about your employer matching you own donation.  Very sweet as well.  Let me hear from you if you have any ideas or wish to make a donation.  It's amazing how little it takes to make such a big difference.  Want more info?  Go to operationwritehome.org and check it out.  It's an excellent opportunity for a tax deductible donation as well.

I was fortunate to take a Stampscapes class on Saturday at Mimi's Crop Circle in Burien, WA.  It was taught by Linda Sylmes who had scheduled the class at our Issaquah location but was never able to hold it before we closed.  It was a GREAT class and I had tons of fun. Of course, having my wonderful niece, Kayla, and my good friend, Jean Mendel, attend with me made it all that much better.  I loved the idea of rubber stamping on photos.  The results were stunning and we are considering a Stampscapes club to keep us creating.  Stay tuned...
